TIMMMMBER!!!

I can't believe it's October already. This year has really gone by fast. We've had a few exciting things happen this year. In June we had Sunrise Landscaping cut down the two gigantic fir trees in our front yard. The trees were about 120 feet tall and 11 feet around at the base. It was a hard decision to take them down. We've lived in this house for 32 years so those trees have been a part of our lives all that time. They were causing some problems though, especially for our neighbor. Every time we had a windstorm, huge branches would break off and fly over and hit his vehicles....It was pretty amazing to watch the tree guys at work. One man climbed the tree cutting the branches off as he went up and dropping them to the other two men who dragged them over and fed them into their huge chipper that ate up the limbs like a pencil sharpener. After the climber cut off the top 15 feet or so of the tree he cut big 20 to 30 feet sections and fell them to the ground. They did some major damage to the lawn when they hit, sinking the length of the trunk into the ground at least 6-10 inches. One of the pieces he cut near the top of the tree came down on its end and stabbed into the ground. About 25 years ago we had a guy take a fir tree down. He cut the tree into firewood-sized lengths and dropped them neatly in a pile at the foot of the tree. I prefer that method but we probably got a better price this way. After the trees were down Sunrise cut them into firewood lengths and then our men split and stacked them. Even after we gave some to Chris we got more than 7 and possibly as much as 10 cords of wood. Sometimes I missed the trees at first but I really love the increased light during the day and the open skies, especially on a clear, starry night. Here are some before, during and after pictures.
